Cutting-Edge Si02Technology Behind Meguiar’s Ceramic Family

Meguiar’s has been in the business of making the best possible product to enhance and protect surfaces for well over a century now. One of the reasons they have been so successful over the years is that they are always evolving and adapting to the times by constantly producing new cutting-edge formulas. The first wax protection Meguiar’s developed was a carnauba that offered an amazing depth of shine with a good protection. The next advancement in paint protection was the synthetic polymer that offered more durability and longer lasting protection because of its synthetic nature. The latest evolution in paint protection is the ceramic coating.

Ceramic coatings are harder, more durable and thicker than waxes and sealants, and they can deliver an intense water beading action. Depending on the chemistry, the coating may also make cleaning easier and keep the paint surface cleaner, longer. Commonly used ceramic materials for coatings include SiC (silicon carbide), Si02 (silicon dioxide) and Si3N4 (silicon nitride). Ceramic coatings can last anywhere from 6 months to several years. The best results are achieved when the paint has been fully prepared by removing all bonded contaminants, iron particles and below surface defects prior to application. The downsides are that some ceramic coatings can be tricky to apply, and they can also be expensive, ranging from several hundred to several thousands of dollars.

Early 2019, Meguiar’s took the Si02 technology, commonly used in ceramic coatings, and formulated Meguiar’s® Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax. While it’s based off ceramic technology, it isn’t actually a ceramic coating. It essentially combines polymer molecules with a Si02 core making it a hybrid between a polymer sealant and a ceramic coating. The result is a spray protectant that embodies some of the desired characteristics of a ceramic coating like extended durability, extreme water beading and easier wipe down in a product that’s extremely easy to use and is much less expensive.

With the popularity of this product and feedback from their customers, it was a natural progression for Meguiar’s to expand the family of Si02 products which would in turn provide their customers with several advanced detailing options with benefits that weren’t previously available to them.

One of the first additions to the Si02 family was Meguiar’s® Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax. Customers loved the new spray on ceramic wax, but some wanted the benefits of Si02 in a more familiar wipe-on, wipe-off wax experience. With this exciting new liquid, you get cutting-edge hybrid ceramic technology that seals the paint with ceramic protection and durability that lasts, extreme water beading action, but is as easy to apply as an ordinary liquid wax. Just apply a thin amount to a panel, let cure for 3-5 minutes, swipe off and you’re done!

Another exciting product based off Si02 chemistry is Meguiar’s® Hybrid Ceramic Detailer. This advanced formula puts a whole new twist on what a spray detailer can deliver by quickly and gently removing light dust and fresh contaminants while leaving behind a layer of hybrid, Si02 ceramic protection that beads water like crazy. Use as a stand-alone detailer between washes or as a booster that helps to maintain preexisting protection from Hybrid Ceramic Liquid Wax or Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax. When done, paint is left with a slick finish, increased shine and a boost in water beading protection.

With the addition of Hybrid Ceramic Detailer, Meguiar’s got to thinking about taking clay to the next level and they came up with Meguiar’s® Hybrid Ceramic Quik Clay Kit. This kit comes with a synthetic clay pad designed to perform like traditional clay yet is easier to handle. The Hybrid Ceramic Detailer then acts as the lubricant allowing the pad to glide with ease over the paint while leaving behind a layer of hybrid ceramic protection. With sophisticated Si02 technology, you boost shine and slickness with extreme water beading action and additional protection while removing bonded contaminants. What more could you ask for?

So, with the advancement of cutting-edge Si02 technology and the popularity of Hybrid Ceramic Spray Wax we see Meguiar’s ceramic line of products grow. And with it, customers get many of the benefits of ceramic coatings including amazing durability and protection, extreme water beading, surface slickness and easier wipe downs. All of this in cutting-edge, user-friendly products that make getting amazing results easier and are relatively inexpensive in the scheme of things.
